Sunny Stripe WIP

My sister's blanket has been on hold while I was waiting for more wool, so that I could continue further with it. The parcel arrived on the day of my birthday, which made it a delightful unexpected present! This means that my main activities have been crocheting Sunny Stripe and reading my kindle. It is amazing to be able to do my two favourite hobbies at once, and I will never tire of making the blanket!
Speaking of books, I would like to know what your favourite book/author/genre is, as I find it interesting knowing what kind of books people find appealing. I have read a lot of books, however I have realised a majority of my recent reads have been paranormal/dark fantasy. Which has led me to ask others for suggestions in different genres, and my lovely sister has recommended a few classic novels to read!
Also, I want to say thank you to the people for my birthday wishes at the weekend as it really made my day when I got to read your comments to my birthday post.

  1. It's looking really good! If you send me the dimensions of your kindle cover, I'll make you a fabric one if you like. I have some really nice thick upholstery fabrics just now.

  2. Hope you had an awesome hanau, Hazel!
How do you read and hook at the same time? Prop up your Kindle to read while you're hooking?
I like fiction & romance. Have you read The Discovery of Witches? It's so cool, like an adult Twilight. Intellectual stuff in there w/clean romance and magic! I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts; she writes romance and great fiction where you learn about interesting occupations.

  3. I wish I could read and crochet at the same time! I've thought about getting audio books so I could do both, but I hate being read to =)

Have you read any Jasper Fforde? The Tuesday Next series is fun. The first one is calld The Eyre Affair. I don't even know how to describe it... this chick can travel through books. He has a few other series that I haven't gotten into yet, but will soon. Lately I've been trying new stuff out looking at all the free ebooks on Amazon for the Kindle. Unfortunately, I've run across more duds than good ones.

The blanket is very sunny and happy =) Good work.

  4. Thank you Kepanie! I had a lovely hanau :)
I usually prop it somewhere and just need to nudge a button to flick to the next page!
That book sounds quite interesting! Nora Roberts is a good romance author I agree.

  5. Yarn in the mail is always a nice surprise or books, I love to receive either. I like reading lots of different books. Its not unusual to find my nose buried in herbal texts for hours but as for fiction I think my favourite author at the moment is Jodi Picoult. Love the way she portrays each character and gets into their head. Gives the reader a good understanding of how each person feels and thinks. I also love Barbara Erskine and some of Nora Roberts books (don't like the crime ones much but the love stories are sweet for a light read). I also enjoy reading biographies and learning about people.

  7. I love that blanket! It just screams Spring/summer and makes me smile.

For books, I tend to read general contemporary fiction and within the last year have started to read memoirs/biography more. There are some fascinating people out there!

  8. I'm not much of a reader to be honest, I'm reading Narnia right now. I'm a sucker for fantasy books (even though it is written for kids).

The ripple is growing fast! I wonder, how do you manage to read and crochet? I just can't do it. I don't have this ebook thingy, does that make a diffence?

  9. Your blanket is looking fabulous, so happy and Spring like. As for books, I wouldn't know where to start. I'll have a think!

  10. Your blanket is looking beautifully springy and really coming on well.
I have not been able to pick up a proper book since No.3 came along, but my pre children/crafting reads were always a good murder or crime book. James Patterson, Martina Cole or Quintin Jardine were always firm favorites of mine.
Now it a quick glance at a book for a pattern!!

  11. Oh, I am still loving that blanket. Sunny is an excellent quality for a blanket to have. :)

Happy belated birthday, too! I'm glad you're enjoying your birthday Kindle. I read a lot less than I used to now that I craft all the time, sadly, but most of the stuff I read is young adult or children's novels, LOL. I just...never grew out of them, I guess? (My current read is Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, which is better than the title makes it sound!) But one of my favorite for-grown-ups authors is Connie Willis, who writes things that thrill and delight and sometimes scare me. Her work is...sort of science fiction. Also in "sort of sci-fi," I loooove William Gibson---moreso his later novels than Neuromancer, which is something of a sci-fi classic, but he's a better writer now---Pattern Recognition is especially good. And I surprised myself last year by loving Sense and Sensibility to bits.

  12. Such a nice, cheerful blanket :) I tend to read mostly science fiction/fantasy novels. I am currently reading JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series, and next is a trilogy by LE Modesitt Jr. Some of the "classics" are on my to-read list as well!

  13. Happy Belated Birthday! The blanket is so pretty, so bright!
Reading is my passion too, but I am old fashioned and have yet to get a Kindle :P I'm sure they are lovely though.

As for reading, I read a wide variety of genres, and it depends on my mood. My fav authors are Jane Austen, Phillipa Gregory who is fantastic with historical fiction, and Stephen King when I'm in the mood for something scary.
If you enjoy paranormals I'd recommend Laurell K. Hamilton.
    Happy reading and crocheting :)
